‘Scape’ was an urban arts biennial in Christchurch, New Zealand, showcasing contemporary art in the landscape, it included ‘Lightscape’, a nocturnal art gallery.
CIVIC CONNECTIONS’ was devised by me as a way-finding system that conceptually and spatially linked the ‘Lightscape’ exhibitions. In itself ‘CIVIC CONNECTIONS’ was an art work, as it etched a multi-coloured pattern into the night sky in the form of a cross that emanated from the Christchurch Cathedral, and went directly down a boulevard to the Canterbury Museum. It was intercepted two thirds of the way down by the lit ribbon of the River Avon.
